During the 1920's the small village of Hua Hin, situated on the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand, became a popular destination with the Thai Royal Family and many more people began to follow their example. The modern Hua Hin is the oldest beach town resort in Thailand and is considered the top getaway destination for the city workers of Bangkok. As you would expect from a resort formed by a royal connection the luxury hotels HuaHin has offer the visitor all the opulence and comfort they require.

All the many wonderful luxury hotels HuaHin can boast means that any visitor to the town will be spoilt for choice. Facilities are varied and comprehensive including infinity-edge pools, tranquil beach side locations, panoramic views of the expansive blue ocean, spas and wellness centers, private Jacuzzis and restaurants for every day of the week. Rooms and decor are stylish and of the highest quality whether you are looking for family rooms, spacious doubles or a honeymoon suite. Many of the luxury hotels HuaHin offers also have their own unique facilities such as golf courses, shuttle services or tropical gardens to name but a few, as well as the modern technology facilities you would expect such as Wi-Fi connections or cable television.

The long stretches of sandy beach, clear sea waters and superb weather make this part of Thailand a sun seekers paradise. But if you want a change from the beach you will find there are also plenty of activities on offer. Hua Hin was the home to Thailand's first golf course and the game is still a very popular pastime and many of the courses welcome visiting players for reasonable fees. For those looking for an adrenalin rush then try kite-surfing around the glorious bays or wonder at the marine life from breathtaking diving spots.

If sports and activities are not for you, then there is plenty of culture and history to soak up in Hua Hin. Along the south end of the beach is Khao Takiab hill with Buddhist shrines at its peak. The five story high steps that lead up to the top open onto a spectacular panorama of the beach and surrounding areas of HuaHin. If you don't fancy the walk then it is possible to hire a pony from the beach and take a trail up Khao Takiab hill winding your way past private residences and villas giving you a full appreciation of by-gone eras and varying architectural styles.

Originally built in 1923 by the Railway Authority the Railway hotel fell into a state of disrepair until around 50 years ago when the colonial style building underwent a full and loving restoration to restore its 1920's decor. The building now showcases the museum, tea room and intricate topiaries including one of the most famous landmarks in Hua Hin, an 80 year old topiary elephant. The detailed restoration has been rewarded in achieving an Outstanding Conservation Award.

The Thai food and cuisine is renowned as one of the best in the world and the restaurants and eateries in HuaHin and the surrounding area easily live up to the national reputation. Thai food is prepared using the best of fresh seasonal produce with vegetables, fish and poultry amongst the more common ingredients. It's distinctive flavor comes from the addition of items such as lemon grass, coconut milk, lime juice and fresh coriander not forgetting of course fresh chilies to add a little heat. Whether you choose to eat at one of the many roadside stalls or a sophisticated restaurant local Thai cooking will give your taste buds a delight.

No matter what type of holiday you are looking for, relaxed and tranquil or action packed, this region of Thailand has one major advantage over other holiday destinations in that despite developing over recent years into a bustling modern beach resort with the plethora of luxury hotels HuaHin offers, it still successfully maintains its serene fishing village charm and traditions. The area is so much more than just a beach and a stunning ocean that it is little wonder it is so popular with the local Thai weekenders and the international visitor. HuaHin is truly a perfect destination and one everyone should try to visit at least once, but not many people will be satisfied with just the one visit.
